Camp Director, Frank Albert

Frank Albert is a veteran performer, presenter, clinician, composer and the current director of music programs at Mooresville Christian Academy where he directs the String Machine and Young Performers Ensemble. Frank has more than 16 years of experience as an educator, piloting programs in Virginia and North Carolina, and has recently visited many string programs in North and South Carolina working with students in improvisation workshops and clinics on his 6-string Viper electric violin.

He is a violist with the Salisbury Symphony and the owner of Davidson Violins, a violin shop in Davidson, NC. His passion is to see students pursue their musical voice and become dedicated to string playing in all its manifestations. Frank graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and has sons who play cello and violin.

Teachers and Clinicians:

The camp will also feature a “who’s who” of local string specialists, both teachers and performers, native born and internationals who lend their unique perspective in our region. These local and regional professionals will teach their area of specialty and passion. They will include experts in classical music, folk styles and other types of music that feature bowed string players. We specifically are seeking innovators who are influencing their musical genre locally or beyond and have high standards for quality playing and teaching along with many years of experience.

Camp sponsor and instrument provider: Davidson Violins is a violin shop based in Mooresville. The shop was founded by Frank and Lucy Albert along with Paul Reynolds to provide the region with high quality instruments, supplies and services. Davidson Violins is providing rental instruments during the camp to students who need them, and will offer strings, accessories and minor repair services during the camp as the need arises.

Mooresville Christian Academy: Founded in 1998, M.C.A. was formed to serve the need for Christian based education in the Mooresville area. The school teaches children in grades K-12, featuring high quality education with low teacher/student ratios, active parent participation and one of the lowest tuition costs in the region. The school has recently created the Challenger Program to encourage high achieving students to pursue their potential.

M.C.A. will offer a 1 music elective credit to students enrolled at M.C.A. who participate in the camp and will count it as a Challenger program activity.

Camp Vision

Our vision is to see children and youth achieve their full potential through workshops, instruction and events that explore many musical styles and that are ultimately relevant and interesting to students. We specifically endeavor to help these students identify their primary expressive style while reinforcing fundamental techniques to produce well rounded musicians.

Whom We Serve

Youth Strings International is a community service of Mooresville Christian Academy and All Strings Attached in Mooresville, North Carolina. The school and this local violin shop have collaborated to extend the dynamic strings program of M.C.A. to the region through a dedicated summer music camp. The camp is designed for 4th-10th graders to explore traditional and new styles of music, build their skills and enthusiasm, and gather with other students who play string instruments. This camp is approved for credits in M.C.A.’s Challenger Program for gifted students.

Youth Strings International Music Camp focuses on developing the next generation of musicians. This camp does not have a specific religious emphasis, however it is assumed that students and parents will have read and signed the code of conduct for the camp and will abide by its simple requirements. We strive to maintain a safe, courteous environment for all children who attend. Our focus is musicianship and great opportunities for the students. It is assumed that all students intend to learn, participate and respect adults and fellow campers. For most aspects of the camp students will be grouped by age as much as their playing level allows.
