Youth Strings International was formed to serve students studying violin, viola, cello and string bass with the best opportunities to explore their musicianship in a variety of musical styles with dynamic instruction from the region's best teachers and musicians.
Offered in a non-residential, full day format from June 28 through July 2, orientation is Sunday, June 27 at 6PM. Camp is Monday through Friday, 9AM to 4PM.

Rising 4th graders through Rising 10th graders. PREVIOUS PLAYING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Students must have at least 9 months of private or group instruction in violin, viola, cello, or bass prior to attending camp.
Students will participate in full ensembles, small ensembles, independent study and workshops, master classes and presentations from guest musicians. Students will be grouped according to age and playing ability into as many as 3 separate ensemble/activity groups.
What Students Bring:
Students bring lunch and snacks, their primary instrument (unless renting, see registration form), and their electric violin, viola or cello if they have one!
What the Camp Provides
Adult supervision and instruction, electric violins to try, rentals as needed, beverages, music, accessories, technology, safe facilities, brief outdoor recreation and an unforgettable week!
$50: Registration fees paid before June 5, per student.
$65: Registration fees paid after June 5, per student.
Tuition: (after registration fee has been paid):
$165 Standard rate, per student.
$135 M.C.A. student rate, per student (applies to students enrolled for 2010-2011 school year)
The total camp fee is the registration fee + the tuition fee. Registration fees are due before camp begins; tuition can be paid at orientation. If you register before June 5, the registration fee per child is $50. If you register after June 5, the registration fee is $65 per child; tuition can be paid at orientation in either case. Instrument rental fees are in addition to registration fees and tuition if you are renting an instrument.

Camp Director, Frank Albert
Frank Albert is a veteran performer, presenter, clinician, composer and the current director of music programs at Mooresville Christian Academy where he directs the String Machine and Young Performers Ensemble. Frank has more than 16 years of experience as an educator, piloting programs in Virginia and North Carolina, and has recently visited many string programs in North and South Carolina working with students in improvisation workshops and clinics on his 6-string Viper electric violin.
He is a violist with the Salisbury Symphony and the owner of Davidson Violins, a violin shop in Davidson, NC. His passion is to see students pursue their musical voice and become dedicated to string playing in all its manifestations. Frank graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and has sons who play cello and violin.
Teachers and Clinicians:
The camp will also feature a “who’s who” of local string specialists, both teachers and performers, native born and internationals who lend their unique perspective in our region. These local and regional professionals will teach their area of specialty and passion. They will include experts in classical music, folk styles and other types of music that feature bowed string players. We specifically are seeking innovators who are influencing their musical genre locally or beyond and have high standards for quality playing and teaching along with many years of experience.
Camp sponsor and instrument provider: Davidson Violins is a violin shop based in Mooresville. The shop was founded by Frank and Lucy Albert along with Paul Reynolds to provide the region with high quality instruments, supplies and services. Davidson Violins is providing rental instruments during the camp to students who need them, and will offer strings, accessories and minor repair services during the camp as the need arises.
Mooresville Christian Academy: Founded in 1998, M.C.A. was formed to serve the need for Christian based education in the Mooresville area. The school teaches children in grades K-12, featuring high quality education with low teacher/student ratios, active parent participation and one of the lowest tuition costs in the region. The school has recently created the Challenger Program to encourage high achieving students to pursue their potential.
M.C.A. will offer a 1 music elective credit to students enrolled at M.C.A. who participate in the camp and will count it as a Challenger program activity.
